Chinese New Year

     Chinese New Year is the most important of the traditional Chinese festivals. It is often called Chinese Lunar New Year. It is an East and South-East Asia celebration. Chinese New Year is in January or February every year. Because of basing on a lunar calendar, so it falls on different days. For instance it was on Sunday, February 14,in 2010 and it was on Thursday, February 3,in 2011. New Year in China is also known as "Spring Festival," the literal translation of the Chinese name 春节 (Pinyin: Chūn Jié), which means the first day of spring of the year. The holiday lasts five days in the law.
    The last night before New Year is known as Chinese New Year's Eve. This is the joyfullest and festivest night. Families paste the couplets on the doors People always first set off firecrackers before dinner at the night. Next all people start to have dinner together, each other propose a toast, and says, "Happy New Year". After that everybody watches Spring Festival Gala TV from 8 o'clock. Then parents begin to make dumplings for their children and elderships at about 11 o'clock. They will put a few of coins ,sweetmeats or peanuts in some dumplings, meaning that  whoever eats them with a coin, sweetmeat or peanut  is likely to have a sweet life, get a promotion or make a fortune in the new year. People set of firecrackers and let off fireworks at about 12 o'clock. Finally everybody eats dumplings together. Children will kotow for elderships. Elderships will give money to them as New Year's gift. On the first day morning of New Year ,People always wear new clothes to visit parents and friends. No matter who people meet on the way must say,Happy new year.

  1. You gave a very detailed description! I experienced Chinese New Year when I lived in Taiwan, and I was able to have a delicious dinner at a friend's house. It was also nice to have holidays from work too!
